SACKVILLE – The Great Canadian Dollar Store in Sackville has moved next door, taking up the empty space left by the Jean Coutu after they moved into a larger space next door. In this small town version of musical chairs, The Great Canadian Dollar Store has spread comfortably into the bright and spacious store, with more room for displays and products, as well as storage, offices and lunch rooms.

The Great Canadian Dollar Store has moved from 87 Main St. to 93 Main St. in downtown Sackville.

Marjorie Doherty, who has been manager of the dollar store for five years, says that they are seeing customers that they haven’t seen for years. In the larger space, which is almost double the floor space of their original store, they have room for shopping carts and baskets, which makes the store much more accessible.

“It is much easier to get into the store and to move about,” says Doherty. The original store was really a “little space,” says Doherty, making storage and displays a challenge. In order to keep up with needs of the student population, the store has added stainless steel kitchen ware, glass ware and bathroom accessories. Doherty sees the dollar store as serving the town somewhat like the old fashioned department store of the past.

“We are the department store,” says Doherty, adding that their price range actually goes up to $10.
