Port Elgin Celebrates Summer- June, 2010
Hundreds of handmade quilts adorn the gymnasium walls of Port Elgin Public School during the Lupin Quilt and Craft Fair held on Saturday July 3 and Sunday July 4 in Port Elgin, and quilt aficionados come from far afield to see the collection.
The Lupin Fair attracts shoppers and ‘crafters’ and those that like to eat baked goods. Local potters, carpenters and bakers sell their wares, but for the man’s man, there has never been much to do but wait in the car, until now.
This year the fair organizers decided to create an activity for all the husbands along for the drive, so a car show has been planned to coincide with the craft show. Anyone wanting to show a car is invited to bring vehicles of special interest, such as motorcycles, dune buggies, classic cars, street rods and muscle cars to the Port Elgin Public School.
Participants of the car show are also invited to be part of the Summer Breezes Parade in Port Elgin planned for Saturday morning. The line up begins at 10:30 am at Atlantic Windows. The Summer Breezes activities begin with a street dance from 7- 9 pm on Friday night, and include a bake and craft sale on Saturday July 3, in ‘uptown’ Port Elgin followed by the parade. Councilor Tanya Trenholm, organizer of Summer Breezes, says that on Sunday July 4, Port Elgin is hosting a BBQ, a Car Wash and the traditional Fireworks at dusk.
